Planning 1st trip to Cuba in March. For the beach portion of the trip debating between Cayo Santa Maria, Resort at Varadero or Breezes Jibacoa. What makes one of the beach destinations better than other. Also northern Atlantic side resort all appear to be windier than Carribean. Are strong winds a nuisance? Thanks, John

Northern beach areas in Cuba are better in many ways. The standard of accommodation is better, the quality of the beaches is way better and the fact that is windier is not much of a problem because the winds are not too strong. In fact I think Cuba is the worst place for wind surf in the world. All resorts in the north coast are pretty much the same. The main difference is the number of properties and the infrastructure. Varadero is the more developed with a local town and around 100 hotels. Cayo Santa Maria is a small island with nothing else but 4 hotels and Jibacoa only has 1 hotel.
